ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Genetic Algorithm Applied to Geometric Optimization of Isothermal Y Shaped Cavities
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Constructal design associated with genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to optimize the geometry of an isothermal Yshaped cavity embedded into a solid conducting wall. The structure has four degrees of freedom (DOF). The ...
Residual Stresses for In-Situ Deposition of Thin-Film High-Temperature Superconductors
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Residual stresses are caused by nonuniform thermal expansion and chemical shrinkage taking place during processing. For thin-film high-temperature superconductors, residual stresses result because ...
A Finite Element Study of Factors Affecting Fatigue Life of Solder Joints
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The elastic-plastic-creep characteristics of solder joints are implemented in a nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS by developing user defined material subroutines. An eutectic Pb-Sn solder ...
Some Effects of Water Immersion on the Mechanical Behavior of a Polyimide Film
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Absorbed moisture is generally thought to have a plasticizing effect upon the mechanical behavior of polymers. This paper presents some experimental results illustrating the effects of water ...
Heat Conduction in Concentric Cylinders: An Application to Electronic Packages
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A numerical analysis on the heat conduction characteristics of concentric cylinders is presented. The study is relevant to heat transfer in electronic equipment wherein cylindrical electrical ...
Influence of Polymer Viscoelasticity on a Bending Bilayer
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The bending bilayer technique is commonly employed to provide an empirical assessment of the often significant thermal stresses that develop in thin polymer films used in microelectronic packaging. ...
Taguchi on Robust Technology Development: Bringing Quality Engineering Upstream
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Closed-Form Solutions for the Large Deflections of Curved Optical Glass Fibers Under Combined Loads
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Constitutive Behavior and Low Cycle Thermal Fatigue of 97Sn-3Cu Solder Joints
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The thermal cyclic shear stress/strain hysteresis response and associated steady-state creep parameters of 97Sn-3Cu solder joints have been determined using a beam specimen previously developed by ...
An Experimental/Analytical Study of Strains in Encapsulated Assemblies
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A combined experimental and analytical study of strains that develop in encapsulated assemblies during casting, curing, and thermal excursions is described. The experimental setup, designed to ...
