ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Linear Moments-Based Monte Carlo Simulation for Reliability Analysis With Unknown Probability Distributions
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Within the realm of structural reliability analysis, the uncertainties tied to resistance and loads are conventionally embodied as random variables possessing established cumulative distribution functions (CDFs). Nevertheless, ...
Quantitative Systems Modeling for Critical Infrastructure Predictions in Climate Change: A National Defense Framework
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Any national defense is dependent on the efficacy of the available physical infrastructure. Whatever degrades infrastructure, structurally, physically, architecturally, or esthetically, is of interest to the nation. Climate ...
Diminishing Safety Margins of Telescoping-Boom Aerial Lifts
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: As the height of telescoping-boom aerial lifts increase, the severity of tip-over accidents obviously increases. To reduce the probability of tip-over accidents, manufacturers use countermeasures such as outriggers and ...
Crashworthiness Analysis: Exploiting Information of Developed Products With Control Variates
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Assessing vehicle safety is a challenging, yet fundamental task. In the early phase of development, car manufacturers need to ensure the compliance with strict safety requirements. An interesting task to automate these ...
An Android Sensors-Based Portable Road Health Monitoring System Utilizing Measurement Uncertainty Analysis
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Road health monitoring systems aim to obtain the technical indexes of roads and then analyze the usage and the degree of damage of the roads, which can provide an important basis for road construction, maintenance, and ...
Improving Output Power of a Torsional-Flutter Harvester in Stochastic Thunderstorms by Duffing—Van Der Pol Restoring Torque1
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Wind energy harvesters are usually designed to operate in the low wind speed range. They rely on smaller swept areas, as a complement to larger horizontal-axis wind turbines. A torsional-flutter-based apparatus is investigated ...
Bayesian Inference Based on Monte Carlo Technique for Multiplier of Performance Shaping Factor
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The human error probabilities (HEP) can be estimated using multipliers that correspond to the level of performance shaping factors (PSFs) in the human reliability analysis (HRA). This paper focuses on the adjustment of ...
Domain Adaptation of Population-Based of Bolted Joint Structures for Loss Detection of Tightening Torque
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper investigates how to improve the performance of a classifier of tightening torque in bolted joints by applying transfer learning. The procedure uses vibration measurements to extract features and to train a ...
Special Section: Modeling and Analysis of Inspection Uncertainties in Structural Health Monitoring
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The recent advancements in structural health monitoring technology are truly remarkable [1,2], with the utilization of sophisticated methods, such as finite element analysis [3], mathematical statistics [4], and artificial ...
Special Section on Digital Twins: A New Frontier in Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A digital twin (DT) is a computational model (or set of coupled) that evolves over time to persistently represent the critical structure, its components, system, or process. Digital twin underpins intelligent automation ...
