Abstract: The effect of seat transmissibility upon the spectra of motion of a typical bench-type automotive front seat is investigated. Vertical and lateral acceleration spectra arc measured at the floorboard and at the man/seat interface. System transfer functions are identified from the experimental data using spectral analysis techniques. Analytical expressions, which can be used for system ride quality simulation and investigation are determined which best fit the experimentally determined transfer functions in a least-squares sense. A significant resonance at about 4.9 Hertz, which may have a significant effect upon system ride quality, is demonstrated in the data.
