ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Wave Analysis for In-Plane Vibration of Angular and Curved Frames
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In many structural applications like bridges, arches, etc., frames are used, and it is important to study their dynamic behavior. Finite element method (FEM) is usually used for computational simulation of vibration for ...
Computation of the Alpha Cabin Sound Absorption Coefficient by Using the Finite Transfer Matrix Method (FTMM): Inter-Laboratory Test on Porous Media
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The transfer matrix method (TMM) has become an established and widely used approach to compute the sound absorption coefficient of a multilayer structure. Due to the assumption made by this method of laterally infinite ...
Modeling and Analysis of Phononic Crystal With Coupled Lanes for Enhanced Elastic Wave Attenuation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Phononic crystals and metamaterials have attractive potential in elastic wave attenuation and guiding over specific frequency ranges. Different from traditional phononic crystals/metamaterials consisting of identical unit ...
On Design and Analysis of Electrostatic Arch Micro-Tweezers
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This article provides criteria for the design of electrostatic arch micro-tweezers. The tweezers can be operated in two modes: a traditional quasi-static mode where a direct current voltage commands the tweezers arms along ...
Analysis of Random Mechanical Vibrations in Symmetrical Thin Plates Using Full-Field Vibration Measurements
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A successful application of statistical energy analysis for analyzing energy exchanges between weakly coupled subsystems theoretically requires a diffuse vibrational field in all subsystems. So as to verify the conditions ...
Reviewer’s Recognition
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The Editor and Editorial Board of the ASME Journal of Vibration and Acoustics would like to thank all of the reviewers for volunteering their expertise and time reviewing manuscripts in 2020. Serving as reviewers for the ...
Effect of Modal Interactions on Friction-Damped Self-Excited Vibrations
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: It is well-known that nonlinear dry friction damping has the potential to bound the otherwise unboundedly growing vibrations of self-excited structures. An important technical example are the flutter-induced friction-damped ...
Bifurcation and Chaos of a Spur Gear Transmission System With Non-Uniform Wear
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this study, a nonlinear dynamic model of a spur gear transmission system with non-uniform wear is proposed to analyze the interaction between surface wear and nonlinear dynamic characteristics. A quasi-static non-uniform ...
Optimal Design of Maxwell-Viscous Coulomb Air Damper With a Modified Fixed Point Theory
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Air damper dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) is modeled using Maxwell transformed element and coulomb element. This damper serves to minimize vibration at resonant and operation of constant speed machine. Its stiffness and ...
First-Order Error-Adapted Eigen Perturbation for Real-Time Modal Identification of Vibrating Structures
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A new computationally efficient error adaptive first-order eigen-perturbation technique for real-time modal identification of linear vibrating systems is proposed. The existence of error terms in the approximation of the ...
