ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Influences of Elastic Supports on Moving Load Identification of Euler–Bernoulli Beams Using Angular Velocity
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This work investigates the effect of elastic support stiffness on the accuracy of moving load identification of Euler–Bernoulli beams. It uses the angular velocity response in solving the ill-posed inverse vibration problem ...
Vibrations Analysis of Cable-Harnessed Plates: Continuum Modeling and Experimental Validation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Dynamic modeling of spacecraft structures is imperative to their successful design for flight missions. A large number of these structures’ dry mass consists of signal and power cables, dynamics of which is not well-predicted ...
Mitigation of Stick-Slip Vibrations in Drilling Systems With Tuned Top Boundary Parameters
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Aiming at preventing stick-slip oscillations in drilling systems for oil and gas explorations, a reduced-order model is proposed to capture the nonlinear torsional dynamics of drilling operations. In this model, the drill ...
Spinning Wave Scattering From a Flow Pipe With Serrations
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: It is well known that trailing-edge serrations, which are also known as chevrons, are able to reduce the turbulent mixing noise from an aeroengine. The study of the associated control capability of the scattering of incident ...
Impact and Bandgap Characteristics of Periodic Rods With Viscoelastic Inserts and Local Resonators
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A comprehensive theoretical and experimental study is presented of the bandgap behavior of periodic viscoelastic material (VEM) composites subjected to impact loading. The composites under consideration consist of an ...
Investigating Coupled Train-Bridge-Bearing System Under Earthquake- and Train-Induced Excitations
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The dynamic interaction between a bridge and a moving train has been widely studied. However, there is a significant gap in our understanding of how the presence of isolation bearings influences the dynamic response, ...
Control of Vibratory MEMS Gyroscope With the Drive Mode Excited Through Parametric Resonance
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, we present a control strategy for a micro-electro-mechanical gyroscope with a drive mode excited through parametric resonance. The reduced order two degrees-of-freedom model of the device is built, and the ...
Dynamic Characteristic Analysis of Rotating Blade With Transverse Crack—Part I: Modeling, Modification, and Validation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This study aims at the systematical improvement and comparative analysis of analytical crack models for the rotating blade. Part I of this study focuses on analytical modeling, model modification, and model validation of ...
Active Detection of Small Imperfections in Structures With Cyclic Symmetry
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Structures possessing cyclic symmetry such as turbine bladed disks, ultrasonic motors, and toothed gear wheels can experience elevated vibration levels when small deviations from circumferential periodicity exist. Detection ...
Dynamic Stress Analysis of Exposed Pipes Subjected to a Moving In-Line Inspection Tool
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In-line inspection (ILI) is a non-destructive assessment method commonly used for defect assessment and for pipeline monitoring. Passing an ILI tool through an excavated or exposed section of a pipe during an integrity ...
