    Abstract: In this paper, a closed-form expression for intercept factor is used to carry out the optimization of parabolic trough collector geometry (rim angle and concentration ratio). It is shown that the presented closed-form expression eliminates the need for a detailed ray-trace computer code and facilitates optimization of the collector optical design parameters.
