EISSN:1528-8986|ISSN:0199-6231|Disc:The Journal of Solar Energy Engineering - Including Wind Energy and Building Energy Conservation - publishes research papers that contain original work of permanent interest in all areas of solar energy and energy conservation, as well as discussions of policy and regulatory issues that affect renewable energy technologies and their implementation. Papers that do not include original work, but nonetheless present quality analysis or incremental improvements to past work may be published as Technical Briefs. Review papers are accepted but should be discussed with the Editor prior to submission. The Journal also publishes a section called Solar Scenery that features photographs or graphical displays of significant new installations or research facilities|Priority:6|Publisher:American Society of Mechanical Engineers|

A Novel Optical Efficiency Model for Heliostat Fields Based on 2D Boolean Operations
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)The optimal design of the heliostat field is one of the fundamental issues in concentrated solar power generation. Due to the complexity of computing the shading and blocking, the accurate computation of optical efficiency ... -
Evaluating Glint and Glare Hazards From Fields of Parabolic Mirrors
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Reflected light from photovoltaic installations and concentrated solar power plants poses a significant risk to observers, manifesting as glint (momentary flashes) and glare (sustained brightness). These hazards are ... -
A Novel Heatsink for Optimizing Photovoltaic Cell Performance With Passive Cooling Using Perforated Wave-Shaped Fins
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert solar energy into electricity with about 20% efficiency, while the remaining 80% dissipates as heat, reducing performance. Maintaining PV cells near 25 °C is crucial to avoid efficiency ... -
Energy Efficiency and Grid-Independent Buildings
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)The proliferation of solar homes with photovoltaics and without energy storage promotes the electric power supply–demand mismatch and impedes the higher market adoption of renewable energy in buildings and the decarbonization ... -
A Combined Computational and Mathematical Analysis of Interconnect Fatigue Potential in Photovoltaic Modules
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)A finite element model of a 60-cell monocrystalline silicon glass-polymer photovoltaic module was simulated with ±1.0 kPa and ±2.4 kPa loads applied to the glass to calculate the deformation under load. Cell-to-cell ... -
Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of an Office With Seated Persons and a Double-Duct Solar Roof Chimney for Passive Ventilation
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)This investigation reports a detailed computational study of heat transfer and airflow in an office with seated persons with a double-duct vertical roof solar chimney (SC). The computational model was validated with ... -
Performance Analysis of Novel Solar Dryer With Optimal Tilt Angle
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)This study investigates the performance and economic aspects of a novel natural convection solar dryer designed for drying tomato slices. The dryer, featuring a floor area of 0.45×0.80m2 with a north–south orientation, ... -
Thermodynamic Power Cycle for the Solar Vortex Engine
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)The solar vortex engine (SVE) is an updraft solar power generation system that removes the limits and high capital costs imposed by the traditional solar chimney. In this study, a thermodynamic power cycle is developed by ... -
Unrestraining the Biot Number for Systems With Internal Heat Generation
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Thermal runaway from hot spots in systems such as solar energy storage poses a safety concern. Tools for rapid analysis of these systems would be exceedingly useful in their development and maintenance. The “lumped ... -
Experimental Study of a Cooling Photovoltaic Solar Panel Using Water-Wet Jute Fabric
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)One of the most significant problems solar panels face is the rising temperature in their solar cells, which can lead to a decrease in electrical production. To solve this issue, we conducted a comparison study to establish ... -
Solar Simulator Prototype With Halogen and Light-Emitting Diode Sources
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Hybrid solar simulators (SS) using halogen lamps and light-emitting diodes (LEDs), classified as A for spectral match (SM) and temporal instability (TI), are primarily reported for characterizing small solar cells (160cm2). ... -
Impact of Non-Uniform Surface Temperature on the Apparent Radiative Properties of Cavity Receivers
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Radiative surface properties play a critical role in the design, analysis and optimization of solar–thermal systems. Cavity receivers increase the efficiency of solar–thermal energy systems through the cavity effect. The ... -
