Abstract: This paper describes a new optical measurement system that measures the surface height and orientation changes. Homogeneous transformation matrices are used to derive the sensor reading equations. In order to investigate the system’s accuracy, each sensor reading is broken down into two parts. One part concentrates on ideal configuration, while the other examines system errors. A calibration method is provided so that the effects of the latter can be eliminated. The implementation of an actual measurement system is presented and the results show that the performance of this measurement system is excellent.
