    On Asymptotic Approximations to Beam Model Shapes

    Source: Journal of Applied Mechanics:;1984:;volume( 051 ):;issue: 002::page 439
    Author:
    E. H. Dowell
    DOI: 10.1115/1.3167639
    Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
    Abstract: Recently the author had occasion to investigate inter alia the asymptotic character of the mode shapes of uniform beams. These results do not seem to have been presented before in the literature and so are given here as they appear to be of general interest. Clamped-free and free-free beams are considered, although other beam boundary conditions may be treated in a similar manner.
