    Abstract: Flutter instability problems of (i) a rotating circular elastic shaft subjected to both follower end torque(s) and dead force, and (ii) a rotating elliptical elastic shaft subjected to axial compressive dead force are studied, and some instability and variational principles are established in an “equivalent energy” term.
