Abstract: The effects of design and installation features on the overall efficiency of solar heating and cooling systems are evaluated. Solar system piping and thermal storage heat losses and parasitic power requirements are quantitatively evaluated by considering different degrees of insulation and design configurations. It is demonstrated that these system variables have a very strong effect on the technical feasibility of solar heating and/or cooling systems.
