Abstract: A crashworthy package was developed for the air transport of plutonium. The package utilizes redwood, with embedded metal shells, for shock mitigation and fire retardation. The innermost structural element is a pressure vessel, with high sealing integrity under hydrostatic, crush, thermal, ballistic, and corrosive attack. The design was optimized for crash resistance, consonant with practical air transport requirements.
