description abstract | This paper describes the use of models in the study of hot gas flow in steam generators and their allied components. Water flow, air flow, and smoke table models are used to study design parameters and predict operating characteristics of new unit designs. Visual observations and photographic records are made of flow distribution in each type of model. The air flow models also produce quantitative data of flow distribution, velocity, and direction, and pressure loss predictions. By the use of special techniques, flow in any pertinent plane of the water models can be isolated and recorded in still photographs or on motion-picture film. Correlations have been made between data recorded during operation of full scale units and their models. | |
