    Abstract: An approximate analytical method is presented for determining the transmission and reflection of elastic waves at a frictional boundary. The method is applied to the case of plane harmonic shear waves normally incident on a Coulomb friction boundary between semi-infinite elastic media. The accuracy of the method is determined by comparison of approximate and exact solutions in a numerical example.
