EISSN 2998-1646|ISSN 2998-1638|Disc:The Journal of Energy Resources Technology, Part B: Subsurface Energy and Carbon Capture disseminates technical information – peer-reviewed scholarly work, research papers, technical briefs, feature articles and authoritative review articles – of permanent interest to the journal’s readership. Emphasis is given to extraction and conversion of any form of chemical, thermal and mechanical energies, including various electricity generation technologies, refrigeration/heat pump and cryogenic processes, energy storage, and technologies associated with carbon capture, utilization and storage. Evaluation of the systems using methods of thermodynamics, economics and environmental sciences, including sustainability aspects, and policy assessments. Application of optimization methods. A small number of published papers describe case histories, review advanced technologies or describe a new methodology/industrial process, applications of machine learning and big data analysis. Discussion papers addressing energy policy or regulatory issues that affect energy resources and energy demand and supply are also published|Priority:6|Publisher:American Society of Mechanical Engineers|

Study on the Carbonization Behavior of Petroleum-Based Mesophase Prepared by In-Process Hydrogenation
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)As an excellent precursor of high-modulus carbon materials, petroleum mesophase pitches' spinning performance was limited by its high softening point. Under the premise of ensuring the order degree of mesophase microcrystalline ... -
Wellhead Corrosion Mechanism and Optimization Under Alternating Injection Condition of Liquid CO2 and Fracturing Fluid
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)With the continuous exploitation of conventional oil and gas resources, their recoverable reserves are decreasing day by day. Unconventional oil and gas resources have attracted much attention, and CO2-enhanced fracturing ... -
Experimental Investigation on Fracture Propagation in Heat-Treated Granite Samples During True Triaxial Temporary Plugging and Diversion Fracturing

Experimental Study of Sand Wear and Performance Deterioration of Mixed-Type Electrical Submersible Pumps
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) are widely used in the oil and gas industry to provide external energy to producing wells when the natural drive of the reservoir is insufficient. However, ESPs are susceptible to the ... -
Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Thermal Decomposition Solvents for TOAHCl1
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)In the pursuit of optimizing the reaction–extraction–crystallization-coupled mineralization process for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology, this study presents a pioneering investigation into the ... -
In Situ Analysis of Flow and Morphology Properties at the Pore Scale During CO2-Enhanced Oil Recovery
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Carbon dioxide-enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) is an essential technique to improve oil recovery while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, the pore-scale flow dynamics and morphological characteristics during the ... -
Induced Stress Interference of Hydraulic Fracturing in Shale Reservoir
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Multistage fracturing in horizontal wells has been widely applied in shale reservoirs over the past decades, contributing to substantial productivity gains through the generation of a complex fracture network. The optimal ... -
Numerical Simulation Study on CO2 Flooding in Microscopic Heterogeneous Porous Media
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)It is crucial to further investigate the microscopic flow mechanism associated with CO2 miscible and immiscible flooding, reveal microscopic displacement characteristics with different heterogeneities, and determine the ... -
Mechanical Behavior of Casing–Cement Interface Debonding Failure and Safety Verification Analysis Based on Peridynamics
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Frequent occurrences of wellhead sinking highlight the inadequacy of cement's supporting force for the casing, which results in the debonding of the casing–cement interface. The interface debonding leads to the failure of ... -
A Deep-Learning-Based LSTM Approach for Multiphase Rate Transient Analysis in Tight and Ultratight Reservoir
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)This paper developed a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based deep learning for rate transient analysis in tight and ultratight (shale) reservoirs and proposed a workflow to quantitatively evaluate fracture parameters. The ... -
Study on Shale Oil Heating Development Based on Embedded Discrete Fracture Model
(The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), 2025)Heating development has become the main development mode of medium- to low-maturity shale oil. In this study, the thermodynamic mathematical models of flow and heating development of organic matter, inorganic matter, ... -
