ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Extended Physics-Based Reduced-Order Capacity Fade Model for Lithium-Ion Battery Cells1
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Aging models are necessary to accurately predict the state of health (SOH) evolution in lithium-ion battery systems when performing durability studies under realistic operations, specifically considering time-varying ...
An Improved Model of Height Profile for Drop-On-Demand Print of Ultraviolet Curable Ink
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper proposes an improved model of height profile for drop-on-demand printing of ultraviolet curable ink. Unlike previous model, the proposed model propagates volume and covered area based on height difference between ...
Angular Velocity Control of Pneumatic Soft Robotic Digits
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The paper presents an angular velocity controller for the pneumatic soft robotic gloves which are applied to medical hand rehabilitation and performance augmentation. In order to configure the reliable control parameters, ...
A Receding-Horizon Framework for Co-Optimizing the Velocity and Power-Split of Automated Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper presents a control framework to co-optimize the velocity and power-split operation of a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) online in the presence of traffic constraints. The principal challenge in its online ...
Application of Goertzel Algorithm to Piezoresistive Pressure Sensing Fabric for Custom Fitting of Wheelchair Cushions
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Pressure sores are a costly, painful problem for wheelchair users, caused by prolonged periods of mechanical loading. A common location of pressure sores in wheelchair users is the tissue between the ischial tuberosities ...
Early Detection of Fatigue Crack Damage in Ductile Materials: A Projection-Based Probabilistic Finite State Automata Approach
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Fatigue failure occurs ubiquitously in mechanical structures when they are subjected to cyclic loading well below the material’s yield stress. The tell-tale sign of a fatigue failure is the emergence of cracks at the ...
An Inconspicuous, Integrated Electronic Travel Aid for Visual Impairment
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: With a globally aging population, visual impairment is an increasingly pressing problem for our society. Visual disability drastically reduces quality of life and constitutes a large cost to the health care system. Mobility ...
Adaptive Parameter Estimation With Convergence Analysis for the Prandtl–Ishlinskii Hysteresis Operator
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Hysteresis is a nonlinear characteristic ubiquitously exhibited by smart material sensors and actuators, such as piezoelectric actuators and shape memory alloys. The Prandtl–Ishlinskii (PI) operator is widely used to ...
Band Gap and Stiffness Tuning of a Sandwich Plate by Magnetostrictive Materials
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this research, a novel method is developed to manipulate smart structures' natural frequencies to eliminate or alleviate the detrimental effects caused by vibrating close to the natural frequencies. To this end, this ...
Characterization and Synthesis of Duty Cycles for Battery Energy Storage Used in Peak Shaving Dispatch
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Energy storage systems (ESSs), such as lithium-ion batteries, are being used today in renewable grid systems to provide the capacity, power, and quick response required for operation in grid applications, including peak ...
