ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

The Effect of Heat Transfer on Turbine Performance
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: For over 50 years, high-pressure gas turbine blades have been cooled using air bled from the compressor. This cooling results in very high rates of heat transfer, both within the fluid and within the blade, shown in figure ...
The Solar Explosion
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: There were two breakthroughs that led to a veritable revolution in photovoltaic prices. The commonly told story is that China started manufacturing lower-quality panels and dumped them on the world market at prices near ...
Building with Digital Tools
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Researchers at Idaho National Laboratory have adapted digital engineering technology to help build the Department of Energy’s proposed Versatile Test Reactor (VTR). It is expected that developing VTR via digital engineering ...
Heading Into the Clouds
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: With barriers to physical interaction cropping up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, companies are turning more to digital engineering tools and the Internet of Things to assist in this critical phase of product development. ...
Hybrid Electric Propulsion
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Electrified propulsion holds the promise of reducing aviation’s CO2 emissions footprint through three means: access to green grid electric energy, improvements in aircraft performance through new airframe and
Adding Energy Storage to the Combined Cycle
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The efficient natural gas Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) has driven a substantial reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, while gas turbine peaking plants also provide backup for variable renewable resources. As ...
Engineers in Action
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The editors of Mechanical Engineering magazine recognize technologists who developed a robot that can sterilize hospital rooms, a filter that can kill microbes in HVAC systems, an autonomous droid that delivers food, a ...
Shoring Up the Front Lines
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: When offices and workplaces reopen, HVAC systems will be the first line of defense against spread of viruses like the coronavirus. The technology to provide defense against microbes already exists. Unfortunately, the urgency ...
Education from a Distance
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: When the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic caused schools across the country to close their classrooms, colleges and universities shifted to online education. Just as many professional spaces had to adjust to working from ...
Taking the Measure of Electric Vehicles
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: An engineer with more than 45 years’ experience on efficiency claims takes a look at whether electric vehicles are much more efficient than conventional cars powered by internal combustion engines. He found that EVs are ...
