ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Real Time Visualization of Finite Element Models Using Surrogate Modeling Methods
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Parametric finite element analysis (FEA) models are commonly used in iterative design processes to obtain an optimum model given a set of loads, constraints, objectives, and design parameters to vary. In some instances, ...
Peg in Hole Revisited: A Generic Force Model for Haptic Assembly
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The development of a generic and effective force model for semiautomatic or manual virtual assembly with haptic support is not a trivial task, especially when the assembly constraints involve complex features of arbitrary ...
Partial Bi Invariance of SE(3) Metrics1
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In a flurry of articles in the mid to late 1990s, various metrics for the group of rigidbody motions, SE(3), were introduced for measuring distance between any two reference frames or rigidbody motions. During this time, ...
Comparison of Algorithms for Haptic Interaction With Isosurfaces Extracted From Volumetric Datasets
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Combinations of graphics and haptics libraries are used in medical simulations for simultaneous visualization and tactile interaction with complex 3D anatomy models. The minimum frame rate of 1 ...
Eco-Driving Performance Assessment With in-Car Visual and Haptic Feedback Assistance
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this experiment, 28 participants completed an urban driving task in a highly immersive driving simulator at Renault’s Technical Centre for Simulation. This simulator provides a 150 deg field ...
Drivers’ Perception of Loss of Adherence in Bends: Influence of Motion Rendering
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper investigated drivers’ perception during situations of loss of adherence (LOA) in static and dynamic driving simulators. The intensity and duration of the LOA were manipulated. Results ...
Extracting the Structure of Design Information From Collaborative Tagging
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Information representation in engineering design is currently dominated by top–down approaches such as taxonomies and ontologies. While top–down approaches provide support for computational reasoning, ...
Applied Motion Cueing Strategies for Three Different Types of Motion Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Simulators with motion systems are used to give the driver a motion feedback. The type of the motion system and its related motion envelope is a major factor for the ability to present ...
Analysis of the Structure and Evolution of an Open-Source Community
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Open-source processes are based on the paradigm of self-organized communities as opposed to the traditional hierarchical teams. These processes have not only been successful in the software ...
The Importance of Training for Interactive Trade Space Exploration: A Study of Novice and Expert Users
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Thanks to recent advances in computing power and speed, engineers can now generate a wealth of data on demand to support design decision-making. These advances have enabled new approaches to ...
