ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

From Kirigami to Hydrogels: A Tutorial on Designing Conformally Transformable Surfaces
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Elastic surfaces that morph between multiple geometrical configurations are of significant engineering value, with applications ranging from the deployment of space-based photovoltaic arrays, the erection of temporary ...
Interaction of Two Coaxial Penny-Shaped Cracks Near an Arbitrarily Graded Interface in Functionally Graded Materials: Exact and Approximate Solutions
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Multiple cracks interaction is an important topic in fracture mechanics. The related solutions are helpful to understand the failure process and the toughening mechanism of brittle materials. Previous works on the topic ...
Interlayer Slidable Friction Structures on Soft-Substrate
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, we consider the interlayer slidable friction structures on soft-substrate as the hardcover book-like-laminated-plates with internal friction on the Winkler foundation. For a quasi-static problem, a detailed ...
Asymptotic Analysis of Elastic Coupling in Anisotropic-Homogeneous Beam
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Elastic coupling is extensively used for passive control of modern structures. This design philosophy has been extensively explored in composite beams, which are inherently inhomogeneous and anisotropic. Such in-depth ...
Self-Debonding of Adhesive Thin Films on Convex Cylindrical Surfaces and Spherical Surfaces
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The emerging skin-integrated devices have been embedded with various functions, whose ideal implementation typically relies on intact bonding to curved substrates. However, the predeformation, which originates from the ...
A Data-Driven Model to Predict Constitutive and Failure Behavior of Elastomers Considering the Strain Rate, Temperature, and Filler Ratio
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This new machine-learned (ML) constitutive model for elastomers has been developed to capture the dependence of elastomer behavior on loading conditions such as strain rate and temperature, as well as compound morphology ...
Mechanical Response of Stress Wave Attenuator With Layered Structure Under Impact Load: Experimental and Numerical Studies
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The fluidic down-the-hole (DTH) hammer drilling is generally regarded as one of the best means for hot dry rock (HDR) drilling. The fluid oscillator, as the core part of the fluidic DTH hammer, is prone to fracture when ...
A New Shear Deformation Theory in Axiomatic Framework for Bending and Buckling Analysis of Cross-Ply and Angle-Ply Laminated Composite Plates
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this study, a new higher order hyperbolic shear deformation theory for mechanical analysis of cross-ply and angle-ply multilayered plates is developed. Analytical solution to the static and buckling responses of symmetric ...
The Effects of Favorable and Unfavorable Geometric Perturbations on the Response of Pressure-Loaded Hemispherical Shells
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Hemispherical shells subjected to external pressure loading are known to be sensitive to geometric imperfections. Dimple imperfections and their effects on the buckling and postbuckling response of spherical and hemispherical ...
Analytical Solution and Exact Effective Thickness of Multilayered Laminated Glass Cantilevered Balustrades
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Cantilevered laminated glass balustrades present design challenges. The cross-sectional warping allowed by the end constraint induces such strong asymmetrical deformations that traditional methods, defining the effective ...
