ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

A New Extrapolation-Based Uncertainty Estimator for Computational Fluid Dynamics
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A new Richardson extrapolation-based uncertainty estimator is developed which utilizes a global order of accuracy. The most significant difference between the proposed uncertainty estimator (referred to as the global ...
Global Optimization Under Uncertainty and Uncertainty Quantification Applied to Tractor Trailer Base Flaps
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Using a global optimization evolutionary algorithm (EA), propagating aleatory and epistemic uncertainty within the optimization loop, and using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), this study determines a design for a 3D ...
Sensitivity of Input Epistemic Uncertainty on Nondeterministic Performance Estimates Using Nondeterministic Simulations
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper examines various sensitivity analysis methods which can be used to determine the relative importance of input epistemic uncertainties on the uncertainty quantified performance estimate. The results from such ...
Implementation and Assessment of a Residual-Based r-Adaptation Technique on Structured Meshes
Publisher: American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this study, an r-adaptation technique for mesh adaptation is employed for reducing the solution discretization error, which is the error introduced due to spatial and temporal discretization of the continuous governing ...
Assessment of Model Validation, Calibration, and Prediction Approaches in the Presence of Uncertainty
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Model validation is the process of determining the degree to which a model is an accurate representation of the true value in the real world. The results of a model validation study can be used to either quantify the model ...
Truncation Error Based Mesh Optimization
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Truncation error is used to drive mesh adaptation in order to reduce the discretization error in solutions to a variety of 1D and 2D flow problems. The adaptation is performed using r-adaptation to move the mesh nodes in ...

Code Verification for the SENSEI CFD Code
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This work performs systematic studies for code verification for turbulence modeling in our research CFD code SENSEI. Turbulence modeling verification cases including cross term sinusoidal manufactured solutions and a few ...
