ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Economic Sizing of Steam Piping and Insulation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper presents a simple method for the optimal economic selection of pipe size and insulation thickness for steam piping systems. The primary operating costs inherent in any such system ...
The Component Equations of Energy and Exergy
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Energy conversion processes inherently have associated irreversibility. A better understanding of energy conversion will motivate intuition to create new energy-conversion and energy-utilization ...
Economics of Feedwater Heater Replacement
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: As feedwater heaters age, performance deteriorates and leaks invariably occur. In order to keep the heater functioning properly, and to avoid the possibility of water backing into the turbine ...
Second Law Efficiency and Costing Analysis of a Combined Power and Desalination Plant
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Flow diagrams for exergy have been made for Unit 2 at the Umm Al Nar West power plant in Abu Dhabi. This unit is one of six in a combined power and desalination facility, each delivering ...
The Integration of Synthesis and Optimization for Conceptual Designs of Energy Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The evolutionary process of system synthesis and the mathematical process of system optimization are integrated in one do-it-yourself software. A large number of flowsheet arrangements can be ...
A Critical Review of Second Law Costing Methods—II: Calculus Procedures
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The following article completes the review of the development and state of engineering economic applications of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which was begun in Part I (El-Sayed and Gaggioli, ...
Computer Simulation of Solid Electrolyte Fuel Cells
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper presents the results of mathematical modeling of the performance of solid electrolyte fuel cells. The system of fundamental physical equations has been solved using a computer program ...
Emf, Maximum Power and Efficiency of Fuel Cells
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The ideal voltage of steady-flow fuel cells is usually expressed by Emf = −ΔG°/nF where ΔG° is the “Gibbs free energy of reaction” for the oxidation of the fuel at the supposed ...
A Critical Review of Second Law Costing Methods—I: Background and Algebraic Procedures
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The following report reviews the development and state of engineering economic applications of the second law of thermodynamics. It encompasses virtually all of the work carried out publicly in ...
The Effect of the Fuel-Cell Unit Size on the Efficiency of a Fuel- Cell-Topped Rankine Power Cycle
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Dunbar, Lior and Gaggioli (1991) proposed a configuration of a fuel-cell-topped electrical Rankine power generating station and analyzed its performance. That study revealed that the fuel-cell ...
