| description abstract | The adhesive contact problem of two coaxial cylindrical shells of identical layers is investigated in detail. A shear deformation theory is used to derive the governing differential equations. The inner shell is subjected to a constant pressure and an initial separation between the inner and outer shells is specified. It is recommended that the elasticity theory be used to solve the problem exactly primarily because the edge effects as obtained from the shell theory tend to distort the actual behavior of the radial displacement and the surface stresses. The variation of the contact pressure and the interlaminar shear stress for different shell parameters are also studied. | |
