Properties of Work-Hardening Materials With a Limit Surface

Abstract: Plastic behavior is investigated for a material which initially work-hardens, but eventually can have a limiting stress state at which continued straining is possible without increase in stress. Particular attention is paid to stability criteria and stress-strain relations at the limit surface when yield surfaces have vertices, and yield and limit surfaces are nonosculating. Under these circumstances, normality and convexity of yield surfaces do not imply that these are also properties of the limit surface. Conditions under which work-hardening materials are acceptable for use of limit analysis are presented.
