Abstract: Some considerations on elastomer mount design in vibration isolation when both the machine and foundation have many resonances are presented, and possibilities for improvement on the mount performance are discussed. A lower bound of the effectiveness of a mount in the frequency range embracing these structural resonances is used as a measure of its performance. This lower bound is obtained as a function of the mount parameters as well as the driving-point characteristics of the machine and the foundation. Based on the enhancement of this quantity, a simple and straightforward approach can be formulated to augment the conventional mount design.
