Abstract: A finite-element method has been adopted for the detailed analysis of peristaltic pumping. It is found that both wavelengths and wave amplitudes influence the flow field strongly. When there is no net flow, reflux occurs on the axis of the tube for short wavelengths, whereas reflux occurs off the axis for longer wavelengths.
