description abstractVaughan [1 ] has considered the use of wave reflection concepts in the control of lateral vibrations of slender uniform beams. In this paper a different form of the wave reflection matrix is derived, which gives a clearer correlation between the values of its elements and the system response characteristics. In particular, the value of one element is shown to have a strongly dominating effect on the response.
