Abstract: Stresses and displacements in largely deflected cantilever beams subjected to gravity were analyzed by means of photoelasticity. The results obtained for stresses and moments are normalized and presented parametrically for increasing amounts of deflection. For comparison purposes the results obtained using elementary beam theory (small deflection) and large deflection theory are also included.
