description abstract | An elastodynamic solution for the thermal shock stresses in an orthotropic thick cylindrical shell is presented. The solution is achieved by the proper usage of integral transforms such as the finite Hankel transform and the Laplace transform. No restrictive assumptions on the shell thickness are placed. Results are presented for the well-formed wave propagation phenomenon of elastic stresses through the thickness of an orthotropic thick cylindrical shell. Thermal shock stresses become of significant magnitude due to stress wave propagation which is initiated at the boundaries by sudden thermal loading. | |
