    Abstract: Analytical solutions are presented for the diffuse and localized bifurcations of compressible solids subjected to plane-strain loadings. The solutions generalize the works for incompressible solids of Biot (1965) and Hill and Hutchinson (1975). They are verified by comparing them to results previously established for incompressible solids and elastoplastic Mohr-Coulomb materials.
