Abstract: A method for recognizing the extent of the nonlinearity of data acquired by the steady-state harmonic excitation methods is developed. The level of the nonlinearity is defined by a single parameter—the J factor—in the range 1–0 (1 for perfect linearity). An example of the application of the J factor is given.
