description abstractIn this work we use a consistent homogenization theory approach to study the overall behavior of a highly porous elastic material at finite levels of strain. Although the matrix material in the problem considered here remains elliptic at all deformations, the resulting “homogenized” material is found to admit a loss of ellipticity at sufficiently high strains, i.e., can fail in a localized shear mode.
