description abstract | This paper presents some new equations for the treatment of lubricating films when the effects of inertia cannot be neglected. These equations are necessarily more complicated than Reynolds equation, but reduce to the latter equation when the value of a certain inertia parameter is small. Transient, as well as steady-state operation, is considered via a generalized steam-function-pressure approach. The present paper deals with laminar, continuous films with the slider bearing used to illustrate the theory. | |
