Abstract: Damage of a material is a process by which the strength and ductility are degraded. Failure of a component is the inability to perform a function within the design specifications and imposed limits. An index of failure is defined as a limit on a specific type of damage. This paper describes the flow and fracture characteristics of metals in a high temperature environment and relates these characteristics to the accumulation of damage.
