Abstract: This paper discusses the statistical relationship between the shape of the grinding wheel dressing mechanism and the effect of the distribution of the cutting edges on the surface roughness produced. The principal concept is based on the order statistics in order to derive formulae of the ground surface roughness under the most restrictive conditions possible. In this paper, the randomness of the cutting edges on the grinding wheel face and the effect of the curvature radius of the grinding wheel on the surface roughness are taken into consideration. To check the validity of the theory, a comparison of theoretical and experimental results was carried out.
