description abstractThe velocity field for creeping viscous flow around a solid sphere due to a spherically symmetric thermal field is determined and a simple thermal generalization of Stokes’ formula is obtained. The velocity field due to an instantaneous heat source at the center of the sphere is obtained in closed form and an application to the storage of heat-generating nuclear waste is discussed.
