description abstractTwo sets of expressions are obtained for residual stresses and deformations resulting from bending processes in which initially flat sheets are permanently deformed to sheets having finite radii of curvature. One of these sets applies for sheets whose concave surfaces have radii of curvature under load which are greater than 0.84 times the sheet thickness, and is associated with a residual plastic zone in the interior of the sheet. The other set applies whenever the afore-mentioned radii of curvature are less than 0.84 times the sheet thickness, and is associated with residual plastic zones in the bar interior and near the concave boundary of the sheet.
