A Method of Damping Synthesis From Substructure Tests

Abstract: The assembly of damped linear structures along continual interfaces in order to achieve a damping synthesis may pose problems, because assembly methods are ill-conditioned when there is a high number of degrees of freedom at the interfaces. Moreover, identification methods using the smoothing of impedance curves do not give a Rayleigh-Ritz model. To overcome these difficulties this paper proposes a modal synthesis technique which uses two types of normal modes and a new orthogonalization of measured modes based on the Ritz-Galerkin method. It has given a real damping synthesis in the case of damped plate assembly.
