description abstractThis work concerns a pendulum made up of a mass and a weightless rod attached to a pivot. The mass is constrained to move rotationally with the rod but is free to move along the rod. Horizontal vibration of the pivot causes an inertia force in the negative radial direction which prevents the mass from sliding off the rod. Stability of an equilibrium solution is determined.
