description abstractA Dugdale-Barenblatt model is used to examine the effects of crack closure following a step increase in the applied cyclic loading. Complex function formulation is employed to calculate opening and contact loads. It is shown that the effect of previous history of loading on crack growth is significant only when the extent of crack growth is within about one plastic zone size.
