Abstract: Paper describes a method of optimum design (MOD) having many practical applications, particularly in mechanical engineering design. Topics covered for this MOD include its evolution, the basic procedural steps, classes of problems, some general strategy for execution, unique features, and limitations. Finally, several examples are presented which illustrate specifically some of the characteristics and features of this MOD.
