description abstractIn the present paper the general formulation of the hydrodynamic-stability problem is discussed. The problem of the stability of flow between rotating cylinders is considered in some detail. Several related problems which have been investigated in a complete or preliminary manner are mentioned. Finally, the recent work on the nonlinear aspects of the hydrodynamic-stability problem, with particular reference to the stability of flow between rotating cylinders, is discussed.
