Abstract: A numerical study of the fluid flows generated in the annular space between a rotating V-grooved cylinder and a hollow cylindrical shell is presented. The numerical procedures used to obtain flow solutions for different groove geometries at several Reynolds numbers, and the prediction of mixing performance of the various cores based on the analysis are discussed. The mixing quality is equated with the average equivalent strain a fluid element experiences as it flows through the annular space. The results of these computations are in good qualitative agreement with experimental results.
