Abstract: A method of determining deformations of elastohydrodynamic point and line contacts under actual operating conditions is presented. An optical interference of two beams is applied. The method appears to give a high degree of accuracy and thereby offers the possibility of determining pressure profiles over the contact area with sufficient precision for viscometric purposes.
