description abstractSuccessful operation of many practical devices that involve high-speed implosion of shells of circular cross section requires a stable collapse motion. In this paper, the dynamic buckling of imploding viscoplastic cylindrical shells is analyzed, and critical velocities are determined for which amplification factors of initial departures from circularity are 10, 100, and 1000.
