description abstractThe identification of damping, stiffness, and mass parameters from modal information is formulated within a general Bayesian framework. A modified Newton-Raphson scheme is used to modify parameter estimates, given natural frequencies, associated damping constants, mode shapes, and phase angles. Actual data from a nine-story steel structure are used in an application of the method.
