Abstract: The problem is the motion of a film of liquid squeezed between a fixed and a uniformly moving plane. The case when the squeeze Reynolds number R is small is reconsidered in order to point out defects in the conventional lubrication theory which may have practical importance. The effects of initial conditions and large R are then examined.
