The Slack in a Stretched Thin Foil Bent Against Two Parallel Cylinders

Abstract: A stretched finite stiffness foil bent against two parallel cylinders is approximately analyzed. The difference between its length and that of a perfectly flexible foil under similar conditions, termed “slack,” is computed. Changes in wrap angle and in frictional slip forces due to the finite tape stiffness are evaluated. Pertinent results are graphically presented as a function of a stiffness parameter and radii ratio.
