description abstract | Modern optimal control techniques are applied to minimize the transient vibrations of uniform plates by means of one or more linear dampers. Both damper rates and locations are optimized, and guides are provided as to the number of dampers to be used. The design technique readily generates optimal designs with a range of dynamic characteristics, to satisy different requirements. | |
