Abstract: Some existing turbulence models for the round jet in coflowing and quiescent ambients are compared to experimental data, and some modifications are suggested and examined. A new model is proposed which results in consistently good predictions for a wide range of velocity ratios, including the important case of a jet discharging into an ambient at rest. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy in differential form for the jet flow are solved numerically in the physical plane using an explicit difference scheme of the DuFort-Frankel type.
