Abstract: The effect of using an isotropic soil plasticity model to analyze the behavior of a sheet-pile wall supporting an anisotropic cohesive soil is investigated numerically using the finite element method. The stress-strain behavior of the soil is represented by an anisotropic and an isotropic constitutive models and the predicted behavior in each of these cases is compared. The results are found to depend significantly on the value of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest,
